Hanover, MD (June 2, 2021) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Brenda Beerman Trickey as general counsel at Zaxby’s in Athens, Georgia, effective April 19. The search was conducted by Robert Graff, partner, and Anne Miller, director, both with the Atlanta In-House Counsel Recruiting team.
Brenda has oversight and management of all legal matters for Zaxby’s, including legal strategy and franchisee compliance. She will serve on Zaxby’s executive leadership team and oversee matters related to governance, franchising, intellectual property, employment law, real estate, finance and treasury, marketing, litigation, risk management and commercial contracts, including supply chain and IT.
Founded by Zach McLeroy in 1990, Zaxby’s is a premium QSR restaurant franchise best known for its chicken fingers, wings and signature sauces. The chain operates primarily in the Southeast and has more than 900 locations in 17 states.

Brenda has more than 20 years of in-house legal and private law firm experience. She spent the last couple of years with Pet Retail Brands, Ltd (PRB) as their chief legal officer and head of development managing the U.S. and Canadian legal, real estate and construction departments of Pet Supermarket Inc., Pet Valu Canada Inc. and Pet Valu Inc. (U.S.). Before PRB, she served as general counsel for Edible Arrangements and head of legal for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Her background also includes leadership roles with Marriott International, Circuit City and Brookdale Living Communities. She began her career with McGuireWoods, LLP as an associate in the environmental department and was later made partner heading up the real estate team for the firm’s Charlottesville office. Brenda earned her J.D. with honors from UNC Chapel Hill and her B.A. from North Carolina State University.
