MLA Places Michael Elm as Chief Legal Officer at Tolmar, Inc.

Hanover, MD (November 10, 2021) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Michael Elm as senior vice president and chief legal officer at Tolmar, Inc. in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. The search was conducted by Michael Sachs, partner, and Mindy Crandus Sircus, managing director, both with MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting group in Chicago.

Michael will lead Tolmar’s legal function, provide legal advice and counsel to all departments, and support the company’s project management, business development, and marketing efforts and initiatives, as well as all employment, intellectual property, litigation, compliance and regulatory affairs activities.

Tolmar is both a Northern Colorado and Illinois-based based pharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing and commercial operations company. Tolmar develops and manufactures both proprietary and generic pharmaceutical products with specific focus in oncology and specialty injectable therapeutic areas.

Michael most recently served as executive director, deputy general counsel in the Corporate Transactions Group at Astellas Pharma US, a Japanese, publicly traded pharmaceutical company. Prior to Astellas Pharma, he was vice president, associate general counsel at Baxalta US Inc., leading all legal aspects of Baxalta’s business development efforts. Michael also spent over a decade with Baxter Healthcare Corporation – most recently as associate general counsel leading the mergers, acquisitions and business development practice for its BioScience business unit and several years with Abbott Laboratories as counsel – domestic legal operations. He began his legal career as a corporate associate with Vedder Price. Michael earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology and his B.S. from the University of Minnesota.
