MLA Places Andrew E. Derksen as General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Atlas Corp. (NYSE: ATCO)

Hanover, MD (October 11th, 2022) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Andrew E. Derksen as General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Atlas Corp. and its subsidiary Seaspan Corporation. The search was conducted by Olivia Seet, partner, and Pooja Mahbubhani, director, both with MLA’s In-House Counsel group in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Seaspan Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp. (NYSE: ATCO), is the world’s largest independent containership lessor and vessel manager, providing safe, reliable and economical operations. Their multinational team of container shipping professionals is more than 6,000 strong with offices in Canada, India, Singapore and Hong Kong; site teams in Korea, China and Taiwan; and seafarers worldwide.

Based in Hong Kong, Atlas Executive headquarters, Andrew will report into the group CEO and as a core member of the executive leadership team will provide timely and quality executive leadership, execution and accountability on such matters as corporate governance, general management, commercial, M&A, environmental, multi-jurisdictional securities—both debt and equity—and compliance. He will lead a team of legal and insurance professionals based out of Vancouver and Hong Kong, with direct accountability for Atlas/Seaspan legal teams and oversight of insurance matters.

Andrew joins Atlas/Seaspan from Exide Technologies Group, a private equity held manufacturing company, where he served as chief legal officer and board secretary. For the past 10 years, he has held roles of increasing seniority in Paris, Houston and London, including general counsel with Faurecia Interior Systems, general counsel with Lakeside Resources Ltd and senior legal counsel with Hess Corp. Before moving in-house, Andrew was with Herbert Smith Freehills in Paris. He began his legal career with top-ranked Canadian firm Faskens, where he focused on IPO and financing transactions and was seconded to the Ontario Securities Commission. Andrew earned his J.D. from Queen’s Faculty of Law in Kingston, Ontario, and is admitted to practice in Canada, England and Wales, and France.
