MLA Places Brian Gorman as Group General Counsel at Calliditas Therapeutics AB

Hanover, MD (December 19th, 2023) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world's leading legal search firm, has announced the placement of Brian Gorman as the group general counsel of Calliditas Therapeutics AB. Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden with U.S. headquarters in New York, NY, Calliditas is a global commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on identifying, developing, and commercializing novel treatments in orphan indications, with an initial focus on renal and hepatic diseases.  The search was led by Amy Katz and Jerry Temko, both managing directors with MLA’s In-House Recruiting group based in Boston and London.

As group general counsel, Brian will report directly to the chief executive officer and oversee all legal risks that may arise globally. He will play an integral role in both the global executive management and US leadership teams and will serve as the group secretary to the board of directors and chief compliance officer. Brian will also lead, manage, and develop the legal department, manage outside counsel and ensure the legal team is aligned with the business objectives of the organization.

An accomplished legal leader, Brian has over 20 years of experience advising corporate boards and executive management teams of life science companies. He joins Calliditas after serving most recently as executive vice president, corporate development and general counsel of Opiant Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by Indivior PLC.  Previously, Brian held senior legal leadership roles with Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., AstraZeneca, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (now Pfizer Inc.). He began his career at the international law firm, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.

Brian earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and his B.A. from Gettysburg College.
