MLA Places Scott E. Becker as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Genesco

Hanover, MD (October 24, 2019) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Scott E. Becker as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Genesco Inc. The search was led by Heather Fine, partner, and Brandyne Russell, managing director, in Chicago.

Genesco Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based specialty retailer, sells footwear and accessories in more than 1,490 retail stores throughout the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, principally under the names Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Schuh, Little Burgundy, Johnston & Murphy and through various brand websites.  In addition, Genesco sells wholesale footwear under its Johnston & Murphy brand, the Trask brand, the licensed Dockers brand, and other brands.

As general counsel and member of the senior executive leadership team, Scott will lead and manage all legal matters for the company, including corporate governance, risk and dispute management, compliance, and mergers and acquisitions. He will also provide oversight of real estate assets, internal audits and corporate relations functions.

Scott has more than 25 years of in-house and private law firm experience. He most recently served as one of five senior vice presidents responsible for leading Nissan’s regional operations. Before joining Nissan, Scott held various leadership positions with Sears Holding Corporation, including vice president and deputy general counsel. Prior to joining Sears, Scott was an attorney with the firms D’Ancona & Pflaum, LLC; Rosenthal and Schanfield, PC; and Sanchez & Daniels. 

Scott earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his B.A. from University of Chicago.
