CASE STUDY
Our regional mid-size law firm client was in dire need of an experienced attorney who could assist them with overflow workload. The firm has a robust M&A practice and corporate group with workload that exceeded the bandwidth and expertise capabilities of their associates. The dynamics were stretching the firm beyond capabilities and risking burnout, attrition and morale.
The firm had worked with Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Associate Practice Group in the past and knew lateral hiring was a long-term solution but feared that would not address their more immediate concerns. After several calls with the law firm’s recruitment team, the partners of the group and our MLA Interim Legal Talent team, we concluded that the firm needed a consulting attorney with wide ranging M&A experience. This consulting attorney needed experience working on multimillion-dollar deals and had to be able to hit the ground running with little to no training.
Within 24 hours of notifying our recruiting team about this specific need, we were able to provide the client with four consulting attorney profiles to consider. The firm conducted a panel-style interview with one of our candidates and decided to hire her that same day. As a former partner from an AmLaw firm focusing on M&A, our consulting attorney was a perfect fit as she had relevant experience on a variety of M&A matters.
The consulting attorney met our client’s needs with wide-ranging success and has been kept on as an ongoing resource for the firm. The firm’s clients received the M&A expertise and client service they sought when engaging the firm, and the firm was able to expand their team’s bandwidth to meet workload and maintain continuity and expertise within their practice. With the success of this consulting attorney, the firm has asked MLA Interim Legal Talent to assist their private funds team with a consulting attorney search to take some work off of the plates of the other associates within that group.
